Heritage

The legend of Ceylon

Known as Ratnadeepa, the island of gems, Sri Lanka has been celebrated for its gemstones since antiquity. Ceylon sapphires travelled through ancient trade routes and found their way into royal collections across the world.

At Blue Gems, we honour that history by pairing responsibly sourced stones with careful cutting, transparent disclosure and considered design.

Craft

Cut for light

Faceted stones are cut to return light through the crown and create brilliance. Cabochon and other non-faceted cuts reveal phenomena such as asterism and cat’s eye.

Our cutters balance proportion, symmetry, colour and weight so the finished stone expresses its natural character.

Clarity

Treatments and disclosure

Heat treatment is a widely accepted practice used to improve colour and clarity. Diffusion, fracture filling and lattice diffusion are distinct processes with different effects and permanence.

Every stone should be represented honestly. Treatment information belongs with the stone’s description and should be disclosed before a purchase decision.
